A doctor from AIG Hospital further highlighted that 60% of India’s population is overweight, emphasizing the growing obesity crisis in the country.

Experts attribute the rising obesity rates among IT professionals to several lifestyle factors, including:

  • Poor Dietary Habits: High consumption of fast food, processed foods, and sugary drinks.
  • Lack of Sleep & Stress: Irregular sleep patterns and high stress levels contribute significantly to weight gain.

Obesity: A National Concern

Addressing the National Obesity Summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on World Obesity Day, Union Minister Jitendra Singh emphasized that obesity is not just a personal concern but a national responsibility. He stressed the need for a collective effort involving the government, industry, medical experts, and society to tackle this growing health crisis.

India’s Rising Obesity Rates

  • India ranks second globally in childhood obesity, with over 1.4 crore children affected.
