Hyderabad’s Begumpet Airport, which has been non-operational for commercial flights since 2008, may soon resume operations. Built in the 1930s, this historic airport served as Hyderabad’s primary aviation hub until the launch of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad.

The government is now considering reopening Begumpet Airport for commercial flights, bringing potential relief for passengers and enhanced connectivity to the city.

Begumpet’s Legacy & Current Operations

Located in the heart of Hyderabad, Begumpet Airport was one of the busiest airports in India before commercial operations were shifted to RGIA. While it no longer serves passenger flights, it continues to be home to the Begumpet Air Force Station and is used for:
General aviation
Military operations
Flight training
Private jets for business and political leaders
