T Raja Singh’s refusal to comply with police security measures and his criticism of the gun license rejection have sparked an intense debate. While he maintains that staying close to his constituents is his priority, law enforcement agencies emphasize that his security should not be taken lightly. With political leaders weighing in, the controversy surrounding Singh is far from over.
Hyderabad: T Raja Singh Rejects Bulletproof Vehicle, Criticizes Police Over Gun License Denial
BJP MLA T Raja Singh from Goshamahal, Hyderabad, has made headlines after rejecting a security advisory issued by the Hyderabad police. Authorities had urged him to use a bulletproof vehicle and ensure he is accompanied by security personnel due to frequent threats against him. However, Singh refused, stating that such measures would hinder his accessibility to the public. Additionally, he criticized the police for denying his gun license application, alleging bias in the process.
Security Threats and Police Advisory
The Hyderabad police issued a formal notice to Raja Singh, citing repeated threats to his life. The advisory emphasized that the MLA had been observed moving freely in public without security personnel, which was deemed a serious risk.
The notice read:
“You have been receiving frequent threatening calls, and it has been noticed that you are often leaving your residence and office without any security personnel and moving among the public, which shows negligence towards your safety. You are requested to protect yourself by using the bulletproof vehicle and utilizing the (1+4) security personnel allotted by the government to avoid any untoward incidents.”

In response, Singh dismissed the advisory, asserting that a bulletproof vehicle would be inconvenient in his constituency, which consists of slums, residential areas, and commercial hubs. He insisted that using such a vehicle would create a barrier between him and his constituents.
“I need to stay connected with my people. If I travel in a bulletproof car, how will I interact with them? My priority is to remain accessible,” Singh stated.
Gun License Application Rejection
Adding to the controversy, Singh accused the Hyderabad police of hypocrisy for denying him a gun license while advising him to take extreme security measures.
“When I applied for a gun license citing security concerns, my request was rejected due to cases against me. But ironically, many individuals with pending cases have been granted gun licenses without objections. This exposes the double standards of the system,” he claimed.

Legal Aspects of Gun Licensing in India
Gun licenses in India are regulated under the Arms Act, 1959, which outlines strict guidelines for approval. Applicants must provide:
- A valid reason for requiring a firearm (such as self-defense).
- A clear police record (pending criminal cases may lead to rejection).
- A background verification by authorities.
If a license is denied, the applicant has the right to appeal the decision in higher courts.

Political and Public Reactions
Singh’s statements have triggered mixed reactions. His supporters praise his accessibility and courage, while critics argue that he is undermining law enforcement efforts.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has demanded a ban on Raja Singh in Maharashtra, alleging that he incites violence and disrupts communal harmony. Wadettiwar also accused the ruling Mahayuti government of shielding such individuals.
Media and Social Media Response
The issue has gained traction across social media platforms, where Singh’s supporters have expressed solidarity, while others question his defiance of security protocols. Media outlets have also debated whether Singh’s concerns about biased gun license approvals hold merit.
